Valerie S. McAfee (Friske), age 53, of Glenshaw, passed away peacefully at home on August 11, 2026.

Born in Pittsburgh, Valerie was the beloved daughter of Kenneth Friske and Diane (McKeon) Friske. In addition to her parents, Valerie is survived by her devoted husband of 20 years, Gary McAfee; and her brothers, Mike Friske and Geoff Friske. She was preceded in death by her uncles Joe and Jay McKeon.

Valerie was a loving wife, an accomplished athlete, and a dedicated gymnastics coach. She attended Kent University and received a bachelor degree in deaf education. She worked at Bellisario’s Restaurant for 17 years. Valerie coached at Rising Star for many years, sharing her passion, knowledge, and encouragement with countless young athletes. She also enjoyed vacationing on the beach, soaking up the sunshine, watching Court TV and was a true movie Buff. She had a strong friendship group for over 35 years. They called themselves the “rats”.  Valerie was known for her vibrant personality, fun-loving spirit, and love of taking pictures—family fondly joked that she practically invented the selfie.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, 8/18 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Eloise B. Kyper Funeral Home, 2702 Mount Royal Boulevard, Glenshaw, PA 15116. A Funeral Blessing Service will be held the following day, Wednesday, 8/19 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be held privately at Mount Royal cemetery.
