Thomas C. Mayton, 90, of Shaler Township, died Monday, Aug, 25, 2014, in UPMC Passavant, McCandless. Born Jan. 22, 1924, in Lakewood, Ohio, he was a son of the late Louis and Helen Prihely Mayton. He was raised in the Cleveland area, and was a Glenshaw resident for 53 years. He was a member of St. Sebastian Church, Ross Township, and a member of the choir for 40 years. He was employed as a federal meat inspector by the U.S. government for 30 years. He worked at H.J. Heinz Co., Armour, Swift and other meat packing companies. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Merchant Marine as a lieutenant and pharmacist's mate. He volunteered at Beechwood Farms as a naturalist. Mr. Mayton's hobbies included gardening and raising grapes from his parents' farm in Avon, Ohio. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was truly a loving husband and father. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Rose Mary Misencik Mayton; four children, Daniel A. (Pat) Mayton, of Edinboro, Anne M. (Sam) Morgan, of Concord, Ohio, Thomas J. (Becky) Mayton, of Moon Township, and Therese R. "Terry" (James "Ralph") Kalchthaler, of Gibsonia; a brother, William (Marie) Mayton, of Avon, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Michelle Williams (Jeff), Jennifer Yu (Vic), Lori Burke (Donnie), David Morgan (Anna), Matthew Morgan (Kara), Michael Mayton (Tracy), Rachel Bowden (Jason), Jeremey Kalchthaler (Maura), Jessica Dudkiewicz (Ryan) and Jonathan Kalchthaler; and 15 great-grandchildren. Visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at the KYPER FUNERAL HOME, 2702 Mt. Royal Blvd. at Mt. Royal Cemetery, Glenshaw. Funeral prayer at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, in the funeral home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Sebastian Church, 311 Siebert Road, Ross Township, with Father John Rushofsky as celebrant. Interment with military honors will be in Assumption of St. Mary Cemetery, Glenshaw. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Sebastian School, 311 Siebert Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
