Sophie M. (Pawlik) Ghastin, 88, of Shaler Township, died Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at UPMC Presbyterian. She was born March 16, 1927, in the Bronx, N.Y., a daughter of the late Michael Pawlik and Lucy Sylvinski. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption, Glenshaw, as well as the Christian Mothers, Widow-Widowers Group, Parish Wake Service Bereavement Ministry and AARP at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Survivors include four children, Patricia L. (Richard) Rosenfield, of Woodstock, Ga., Cathleen M. "Cathie" (Andy) Acosta, of Garden Grove, Calif., Mary Ann (Robert) Johns, of West View, and Charles S. (Angel) Ghastin Jr., of Erie, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Charles S. Ghastin, who died July 31, 2004; two sisters; and one brother. Visitation from noon to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at KYPER FUNERAL HOME, 2702 Mt. Royal Blvd. (at Mt. Royal Cemetery), Glenshaw. Funeral prayers will be held at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at the funeral home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, 2510 Middle Road, Glenshaw, with Father John Marcucci.
