IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert "Bob"
J. Havelock Sr.
November 12, 1956 – February 27, 2026
Robert "Bob" Jay Havelock, 69, of Brooklyn, NY, passed away on February 27, 2026 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA
He was born on November 12, 1956, in Brooklyn NY, to Fred Havelock and Edna "Dana" Cowan.
Robert "Bob" is preceded in death (April 2018) by Roseanne Havelock his wife of 35 years.
He is also survived by his fiancé Leanne Wood, his sister Pamela (Joseph) Falcona, his son Robert Jack (Kristina) Havelock, Jr. as well as his sister-in-law Lisa (Ralph) Amiano. Bob was a big lover of animals and leaves behind his two cats, Lucy and Smuckers, both of whom brought him a lot of laughter and happiness, as well as his "dog nephew" Rydar who Bob loved to shower with dog treats and belly rubs.
He is also preceded in death by his father Fred Havelock, his mother Edna "Dana" Cowan, and his sister Eileen Havelock (Brian Hall).
Bob worked for 36 years with Northwest Airlines; first at Kennedy Airport, then Pittsburgh International, and finally at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. He was known for being a fun-loving jokester sprinkled with a ton of sarcasm, but with a HUGE heart.
Bob graduated from Peabody High School, in Pittsburgh, PA, in 1974, where he played hockey – right wing. Because of his 6'3" frame, and the way his hockey uniform fit to make him seem much bigger, his teammates nicknamed him "Bear". After high school, he went on to play at the University of Pittsburgh for a year but then decided to move back to Brooklyn NY in 1976. He attended Kingsborough Community College, then went on to work full time with Trans Mediterranean Airlines before getting hired with Northwest (now Delta) Airlines in 1984. Bob decided to retire in 2020 and make the move back to Pittsburgh to be near his family.
Bob loved watching hockey games and still loved to get a skating session in when/if he could. To his family's dismay, he was a NY Islanders fan, but he would cheer on the Pittsburgh Penguins too.
He was a very warm and kind man. There was very little that he wouldn't do for the ones he loved. According to his coworkers, he was a work-a-holic but also a very good friend. To his family he definitely loved teasing and joking around along with telling bad (sometimes really bad) "dad jokes", but also a very caring, compassionate, loving and giving person. He always used to say "I'm only a phone call away" and if you needed him, he would be right there with you as soon as he could get there. Bob was what his grandma called "a mensch" – someone who is kind, responsible, and always tries to do the right thing. And that is what he would want to be remembered for – being "a mensch".
