Obituary

Mrs. Margaret Nan Stewart Cissna, 97, of Upper St. Clair, Pa., passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the Friendship Village Health Center, Pittsburgh, Pa. Nan was born to William Parr and Helen Deindorfer Stewart in Cleveland, OH.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Hempstead Cissna.

Nan is survived by her son Robert of Bridgeville, PA; son William (Kathy) of Kernersville, NC; grandson Andrew (Sarah) of Washington, DC, and great-granddaughter Elinor.

Nan graduated from Miami University, Oxford, OH, and taught in public school in Shaker Heights, OH. She met Dave at Miami U., and they married on March 14, 1942 in Harrisburg, PA, during Dave''s service in World War II. The couple lived in Cleveland, Chicago, Kalamazoo, MI and Pittsburgh. They adopted two sons. In addition to numerous activities and volunteer service, Nan was a homemaker prior to moving to Friendship Village in 2003.

A memorial service for Nan will be held at Friendship Village at a later date.

The family would like to share special thanks with the staff at the Friendship Village Health Center and Kindred Hospice for their concern and special care.
