Obituary

In Loving Memory of Monica Mary Kolenda. Born on September 25, 1962, to H. Wayne Ferrill (deceased) and Joanne Ferrill, Monica passed into eternal life with Jesus on November 1, 2024, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was 62 years old.

Monica is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Steve, whom she met at a young adult group at church. Their love story began there, rooted in a shared faith that became the foundation of their beautiful life together. They built a marriage of devotion, faithfulness, and love, supporting each other through every season of life. Together, they raised two cherished children, Jonathan (Becca) and Sarah (Jake), and became the proud grandparents of Sadie and Lila, who brought light and happiness to Monica's life.

Her legacy of love extends to a large family, including her sisters, Lisa, Amy (Matt Olson), Laura (Pete Rogers), her brother, Scott, along with her beloved nieces, nephews, and countless friends. Her family was her greatest joy. She loved visiting her children, planning family beach vacations, and spoiling her granddaughters with thoughtful gifts. She was also an avid reader, always eager to dive into a new book. Above all, her life was anchored by her deep love for Jesus, and her faith brought comfort and strength to those who knew her. Monica had a passion for teaching and touched the lives of many young students with her warmth and care. She was deeply involved in her church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, nursery volunteer, and elder, always sharing her faith in Christ through her actions and service.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Church at the Heights (500 Salem Lane Gibsonia, PA), from 4:00-7:00 PM, with a memorial service immediately following. A private family interment will be held afterward. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either For The Children or Houses of Hope in her memory, continuing her legacy of faith and love for young children. For The Children is an international Christian organization that works to transform the lives of children in foster care through camps and mentoring programs. Houses of Hope is a global ministry aimed to reach children who have been orphaned or abandoned in various poor countries.
