Obituary

Joseph J. Matera, 81, of Allison Park, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, at VA Medical Center, O'Hara Township. He was born Sept. 26, 1933, in Pittsburgh, son of Michael Matera and Rose Strineri. He was a truck driver for UP Postal Service. He was a Navy veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Glenshaw. He was a member of the VFW, Gibsonia, and DA Veterans. He is survived by two sons, David J. (Laurie) Matera and Daniel M. Matera, both of Allison Park; and one sister, Ann Cardillo, of Mt. Lebanon. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sondra Luick Matera on June 30, 2007; and seven siblings, Frank, Albert, Luigi, Angelo, Phyllis, Antonette and Margaret. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at KYPER FUNERAL HOME, 2702 Mt. Royal Blvd. at Mt. Royal Cemetery, Glenshaw. A blessing service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at the funeral home chapel with Father Mariusz Mularczyk of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of Mt. Royal cemetery, Glenshaw. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or Veterans of Foreign Wars.
