Obituary

Joan Alice "Chris" Christy went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 6 after a two-year battle with cancer. She was born April 4, 1940, to Howard and Edith Christy and lived her entire life in Kilbuck Township. She was preceded in death by her parents.  Surviving family members include her brother Howard "Jim" Christy, several cousins and great cousins as well as many friends - because her friends were family, too.

Joan was the neighborhood hairdresser for the local community for more than 40 years in a shop built by her father with her living quarters upstairs.  In her spare time, she loved to garden and travel, visiting many places in the US as well as Holland, Austria and Iceland.  Her favorite trip was to Holland with it's massive fields of beautiful tulips.  She brought back tulip bulbs which she tenderly cultivated in the front of her house to share the gorgeous blooms with passers-by.

What Joan lacked in stature, she made up for with grit and resolution.  She was an accomplished musician, playing the banjo with a banjo club for many years.  She loved to work with wood - even making some of her own furniture.

Joan took great pride in being able to change the oil in her car, fix the lawnmower and "invent" fixes for other household problems.  Anything she decided to do - including flying lessons - she did with great gusto and determination.  Joan was a hard worker and a loyal friend, ready to step up and help anyone who needed a hand.   But, most of all, Joan was a faithful servant of her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

She spent hours studying the scriptures and did not hesitate to share her faith with others.  She certainly qualifies for the accolade "well done, thy good and faithful servant." Joan Christy was one-of-a-kind.  She will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A funeral service will be held for Joan at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 13 at Kyper Funeral Home, 2700 Mt. Royal Blvd. Interment will be private. After the service all are invited to lunch at Monte Cello's, 2198 Babcock Blvd., Pittsburgh 15209. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society or any charitable organization that is dear to your heart.
