IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frank Lewis
Yerkins
June 19, 1929 – May 10, 2018
Frank Lewis Yerkins, 88 went peacefully to his heavenly home on May 10, 2018 after a few years of declining health. Born on June 19, 1929 in Sharpsburg PA to the late Frank Maple Yerkins and Christine Lauschus Yerkins, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary Catherine Marte Yerkins, in 2015. He is survived by brother Robert Yerkins (Marcie Gebert); five children: Marte Yerkins (Mary Jo Fischer Yerkins), Lynn Sarver Ott (David Ott), Debra Guenther Seiler, Donna Kenna Wauchter Heintz (Fred Heintz, Jr.), Gail Sapir (Scott Sapir); nine grandchildren: Elijah Sarver, Heidi Sarver Tracy, Spencer Ott, Nathan Kenna, Aleah Guenther Ginos, Kevin Guenther Jr., Gordon Sapir, Grant Sapir, Sydney Sapir and ten great-grandchildren.
Frank served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a musician and played slide trombone well into his retirement years, most recently with the HarrisvilleCommunity Band. His career was in industrial gasses and welding supplies, starting as a truck driver at Goss Inc. and progressing to store manager at Amerigas, both in Glenshaw. Prior to retirement he was an insurance agent for AAL. He was an active member of Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glenshaw, participating with the vocal and hand bell choirs and holding many positions on the board of directors. He later attended All Saints Lutheran Church in Slippery Rock, PA.
Frank graduated from Etna High school where he played in the orchestra with his future wife Mary Catherine Marte. They resided and raised their family in Glenshaw for 40 years and retired to Slippery Rock in 2000. His hobbies were restoring cars and remodeling the family home from top to bottom over many years. He could often be found tinkering in the garage and he patiently passed along his knowledge and skills to his offspring, teaching them the virtues of self-sufficiency.
Private burial with the family will be on Monday, May 14 . A memorial service will be held at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 Scott Ave. Glenshaw, PA on Saturday, May 26 at 11:00 AM with a luncheon following.
We are grateful to Concordia Lutheran Ministries and Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford for the excellent care and comfort they provided for our father in his last days.
