IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evelyn
Mcdonnell
July 13, 1936 – March 26, 2025
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Evelyn (Evie) Elsie McDonnell, on March 26, 2025, at the age of 88. She passed away peacefully at The Haven of North Hills in Pittsburgh, PA, with her daughter Shawna and grandpup, Zip by her side.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth McDonnell, and her son, Kevin McDonnell. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Debbie Bell, Sharon Poslik, Marcy Carson, Shawna McDonnell, and Karen Kush, as well as her son Roy McDonnell (Kathy). She was a cherished grandmother to Paul Bell (Jennifer), Thomas Kotz (Micole), Desirae Burns, Craig Bell, Robert Bell, Laurie Poslik, Abigail Carson, Allison Carson, Nicholas McDonnell (Sarah), and Andrew McDonnell (Davita). She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren: Janaye, Sara, Meghan, Collin, Nathan, Aviana, Landon, Riley, Flint, and Tomi.
Born and raised in the Overbrook neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Evelyn attended St. Norbert's Catholic Elementary School and later graduated from Carrick High School. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life, and she was a devoted member of St. Thomas More Parish.
Evelyn had a passion for music and was a talented pianist. She and her husband loved dancing. She found joy in gardening and landscaping, sewing, and giving back through volunteer work. An exceptional cook and baker, she was best known for her warm hospitality, particularly during holidays and family gatherings. Her Slovakian specialties—halupki, haluski, christmas cookies, pizzelles, and nut rolls—will be fondly remembered by her children and grandchildren. Everyone that will be attending Mass, please meet at the church.
Her caregivers at The Haven often spoke of the joy she brought to their days. With her radiant smile, quick wit, and kind spirit, she had a way of lifting those around her, leaving them with laughter and warmth.
Evelyn's love, strength, and generosity will forever be carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
