Born in Watertown, Connecticut the daughter of the late James and Sarah Clarke Young.
She graduated from the Maryland College for Women and received a degree in Nursing from the John Hopkins University.
She was a nurse in the United States Army during World War II, serving in England, France and during the Army occupation in Munich, Germany. She had the rank of Captain.
In 1947, she married Dr. James Stanton Tipping and moved to Pittsburgh.
She was dedicated to her family and volunteered in many school and community organizations in Mt. Lebanon.
Having a rare blood type, she was a regular blood donar to the American Red Cross.
She is survived by her husband, James; daughter, Margaret and son-in-law Fritz Menninger of Ojai, California; son, Stuart and daughter-in-law Christine of Marshfield, Wisconsin and four grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Bradley and Kristin.
Funeral Services were held in private.
