Charles Mengine, 79, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on Tuesday, August , 22, 2023. He was born December 19, 1943., Son of the late Anthony and Mary Mengine.
Charles is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Marianne Mengine; by his sister, Joanne French, married to Doug French; his children, Mary Lou Youchak, married to Stephen Youchak, Tony Mengine, married to Beth Mengine, Salvatore Mengine, Charles Mengine, married to Claudia Coppola; and his grandchildren Ava, Michael, Isabelle, Gabriel, Anthony, Aliya, Alex, Luna, Chachi and Raven.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother Michael Mengine.
In his youth, Charles played football for the famed Morningside Bulldogs. He was a proud Bulldog and kept in touch with his teammates long after his playing days were over. Charles met the love of his life when he was 19 years old, and would be celebrating 60 years of marriage this November. Charles and Marianne raised a family of 4 children and 10 grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Charles was passionate about food, spending his days searching the city for new spots to eat and visiting old favorites. Also known by many as "Doc", he was a self-proclaimed food critic and fashioned himself as a professional gambler. He will be remembered for coaching his kids' sports teams, his generosity, his willingness to help others without expecting anything in return and his dedication and loyalty to his family.
Later in life, Charles made sure to attend all of his grandchildren's activities. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. The memories that Charles shared with his family will last for an eternity and be cherished forever. He will be dearly missed.
We welcome friends and family at Eloise B. Kyper Funeral Home, 2702 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw, pa., on Saturday, September 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A memorial service will immediately follow at 12pm held in the funeral home chapel with Ken Haselrig, officiating.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Diabetes Foundation or the Kidney Foundation in honor of Charles Mengine.
