July 13, 1946 – October 14, 2018
Albert Beyer "Al" Elway, Jr., 72, of Allison Park, PA, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018. He was born July 13, 1946, in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late Albert Beyer Elway, Sr. and Mildred (Stauffer) Elway.
In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. (Voropaeff) Elway; his granddaughter, Nicole Elway; his sisters, Barbara Bushik and Carol Jane Elway; and brothers-in-law, Anthony DeFinis, David Reese, and Nick Swafford.
Albert proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps., completing two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. He also served as a Police Officer in the city of Pittsburgh for 30 years. Albert served as past master of the Free Mason Crescent Lodge #576, currently the Franklin, St. John, Trinity Lodge #221. He was also a founding member of the Blue Knights Chapter 7.
Left to cherish his memory, are his children, Albert Beyer Elway III and his wife, Tracy, and Marcy Lynn Elway, all of Pittsburgh; his grandchildren, Rachel, Alexander, Nathan, and Erica Elway; his sisters and brothers, Gladys Jean DeFinis, Alice Erskine and her husband, Bill, Virginia Reese, Eileen Swafford, David Elway and his wife, Betty, Daniel Elway and his wife, Virginia, and Mary Williams and her husband, John; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the Eloise B. Kyper Funeral Home, Inc. 2702 Mt. Royal Blvd. Glenshaw, PA., on Thursday, October 18, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, October 19, until 10 a.m., the Hour of Service, with Ken Hasslrig Officiating.
Interment will be held in Union Dale Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA, where Military Honors will be accorded.
The Fraternal Order of Police, Fort Pitt Lodge #1 will hold services Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
